Started in 2017 as a CWS social enterprise, over the last three years LBB has provided the Lancaster community with translation and interpretation services in more than 40 languages. As a new start up, LBB filled a unique and multi-faceted need in the community: employers, schools, and healthcare providers had access to in-person, reliable skilled interpretation, and people with language skills, often immigrants and refugees themselves, had options for flexible work schedules and an opportunity to receive income for using their language skills.
LBB was spearheaded by the work and efforts of Amer Alfayadh, who was LBB coordinator since the program’s inception. A native of Iraq and a former refugee himself, Amer was resettled to southcentral PA in 2010. Amer started volunteering for CWS in mid-2011, was hired in December 2012 as a Housing Specialist, and later covered several roles, including Resettlement Case Manager, Lead Case Manager, and since 2017, Coordinator of Language Beyond Borders. Amer’s journey with CWS is a testament to the success that can be achieved by new Americans through professionalism and determination, with a little community support.
While we will miss Amer deeply at CWS, we are incredibly proud of his achievements.
