Special Guest

OMAR MOHAMED

Omar Mohamed spent his childhood at the Dadaab camp, after his father was killed and he was separated from his mother in Somalia. He devoted everything to taking care of his younger brother, Hassan, and to pursuing his education. He now lives in the US, with his wife and five children. He is the founder of Refugee Strong, a nonprofit organization that empowers students living in refugee camps. He is the author of the book “When Stars Are Scattered“, a graphic novel about his experience.

When Stars Are Scattered Book Cover

Heartbreak, hope, and gentle humor exist together in this graphic novel about a childhood spent waiting, and a young man who is able to create a sense of family and home in the most difficult of settings. It is an intimate, important, unforgettable look at the day-to-day life of a refugee, as told to New York Times bestselling author and artist Victoria Jamieson by Omar Mohamed, the Somali man who lived the story.

The event might be virtual, but we’re still counting on you to stay connected! We have lots of ways to celebrate together, from a book discussion with the Lancaster City Library to watch baskets and bingo on the night of the event.

Check out When Stars are Scattered from your local library or buy the book from Aaron’s bookstore in Lititz.

Watch Baskets (For purchase when you register)

Add to your experience watching the Stronger Together event by purchasing one of our watch baskets!
